Something About America

Posted in poem by johnsontoms on December 19, 2011

America’s coming of age has come and gone,

Aged sixty-one since the day it was born

And forced to retire at 32

“We’ve done all we can with you”

And given a check to go its way,

Hop on the bus and catch a plane

But no one was waving goodbye when the wings left the ground.

They stayed home, not dancing to the radio sounds of a breaking news day:

“Two planes have turned day to night.”

She was on board alright,

Left us alone, to find our way

What a fucking way to die.

Good thing someone cried or I’d say we learned nothing.
